June 8th 2007: The Eucharist & I

The PHDC organized an awareness talk titled the Eucharist and I on 8th June 2007. Approximately 60 parishioners attended the talk given by Rev. Marshall Fernandez, parish priest of the Immaculate Conception and also acting Director of POHD.

Rev Marshall spoke on the 2 faces of the Eucharist, one being the Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament & the other according to the Gospel Of John; the washing of the feet signifying service to others. He said the 2 faces of the Eucharist comprising prayers &activities in the church and activities outside the church namely social justice makes the Eucharist genuine.

 Rev. Marshall Fernandez

He stresses the importance of both faces as any work for God must have the 3 Hs: Head - Understanding, Heart - Enough Love to do the service and the Hand - the work that you do.

April 6th: Screening of ROMERO

The PHDC organized the screening of Romero after the Good Friday celebration mass. Some light refreshments were provided for the parishioners after the mass followed by the screening. Between 80 - 100 parishioners stayed back for the movie.

The movie tells of the life and work of Oscar Romero, an Archbishop of El Salvador.
The movie illustrates the hardships and the sacrifices that Oscar Romero has done in order to help and serve the underprivileged people of El Salvador. The story unfolds as the church begins to see the discrimination and the unfair treatment of the government to its people. The poor people of El Salvador get treated badly and are deprived of their rights as a person belonging to that country.

The PHDC members chose to screen this movie to create an awareness to Christians the importance and significance of participation as a Catholic and as a human being. The movie also shows how the people are still faithful to their church even though they know that the government is against them. Through this their faith in God is tested.

However, the church headed by Archbishop Romero began to help the people get their freedom back. Because Archbishop Romero was assassinated during one of his masses, we shouldn’t be afraid of doing the right thing. Nothing will go wrong if we go with God’s Rules.

Days before his murder Archbishop Romero
told a reporter, "You can tell the people that if they succeed in killing me, that I forgive
and bless those who do it. Hopefully, they
will realize they are wasting their time.
A bishop will die, but the church of God,
which is the people, will never perish."
