Teachings of Christ
“You shall love the Lord, your God,
with all your heart,
with all your soul and with all your mind.
“You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”
“On these two commandments depend
all the law and the prophets.”
(Mt 22:38-40)
“The spirit of the Lord is upon me.
He has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
to proclaim liberty to captives
and new sight to the blind;
to free the oppressed and
announce the Lord’s year of mercy.”
(Lk 4: 18-19)
The whole of Jesus’ ministry was of liberating people from sin,
healing the sick and repairing brokenness.
In the story of the Last Judgment in Matt 25, Jesus tells us that
the primary measure of our lives will be how we treated those in
greatest need.
“When we serve the least of our brothers
and sisters”, we serve Christ himself
(Mt 25: 31-36)
Therefore, the concern for the “least among us” is at the core of what we believe and who we are, as disciples of Christ.
The concern for the poor, the sick and the broken is NOT optional, nor is it a challenge for a few to undertake on our behalf.

It is an essential part of our identity as Catholic Christians.
It belongs to each and every believer.
Catholic Social Teaching
The Church draws from the Gospel the teachings of Christ and produces the documents of social teaching.
These documents of the Church’s social teaching have opened up a new path of light and hope for many.
