Lenten Campaign: Mini Soup kitchen at First Garden Flats
It all began with some sponsors, Catholics and non-Catholics,
who wanted to donate some money to feed the poor. These
sponsors approached the PHDC members of OMPH church, Ipoh,
who later got together with the PHDC members of OLOL, Silibin,
and both groups decided to start a mini soup kitchen to feed the
underprivileged.
A day after Ash Wednesday, both the groups started the first feeding
day in the hall of OLOL church. After two feeding days of poor
response, the group decided to change its feeding venue, and
shifted its little stall to the Buntong roundabout. But this venue did not
work out as well and this group determine with its mission moved on to
another location, the First Garden Flats Park.
On the fourth feeding day in the fourth week of Lent, the
mini soup kitchen finally took off feeding about 50 occupants of
the First Garden flats. Equipped with only one small table, an umbrella
for shade and a few chairs, this mini soup kitchen was set-up facing
the lake in the park and was just a stone’s throw away from the flats.
The OLOL members start setting up the stall at about 12pm and
just a few minutes later, the OMPH members came in a car carrying
two pots of rice, a big pot of chicken curry, a pot of vegetables,
plates and drinking water. All the food was gone in a short while.
The BEC members of this area walked from their homes to this stall
and started to serve the occupants of the flats when they
approached the stall. Women and children were the main ‘clients’
of this stall.
Building on this experience, this mini soup kitchen is opened every
Wednesday and Thursday at 12:30pm at the First Garden flats.

February/March: Lenten Campaign - The Jellybean Programme
Beans are associated with seeds. Therefore, the sunday school children (like BEANs), are well nourished
with water (LOVE) and sun light (Protection by parents and other things eg : money , clothes, food)
However, there are many children out there who are craving for all this.
The Jellybean programme hope to create this awareness to the children of the parish.
