EXODUS Formation Programme

Objectives of the Programme
- To bring all Migrant & Refugees (M&R) Ministry collaborators together, so that we can collectively brainstorm and chart the future direction of the M & R ministry
- To enhance networking and collaboration amongst all Catholics involved in M&R ministry
- To impart knowledge and skills to journey with M&R
- To facilitate deeper commitment to serve through a better understanding of the theology (spirituality) of migration
- To develop effective short, medium and long term plans for outreach to the M & R in the areas of awareness building, pastoral care and social advocacy.
Who can attend:
The programme is open to any Catholic who is currently involved or interested to be involved in the pastoral care of migrants and refugees.
Programme Outline:
Among the topics covered are:
· Migration in Asia Today: Trends, Flows and Gender Dimensions of Migration
· Overview of the Migrant and Refugee Situation in Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei
· Theology of Migration
· Teachings of the Church on Migration
· Journeying with Migrants and Refugees
· Building Awareness, Pastoral Care and Advocacy of Migrants and Refugees

Payment:
Participants do not have to pay for the programme. However, all transportation expenses are to be borne by the participant or subsidized by the Parish/Diocese (if available). The Organisers
The programme is organised by the Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Refugees (EMI) which is a commission under the auspices of the Bishops Conference of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. It began operating in April 2009. The current Commission President is Bishop Paul Tan Chee Ing, S.J and the Chairman is Mr. Joachim Francis Xavier of the Penang Diocesan Migrant Ministry.
